Current Issues on Hospital Infection Control in Korea


Abstract
In accordance with changes in age structure as well as disease patterns of hospitalized patients, increasing proportion of large-sized hospitals, and excessive utilization of invasive diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in recent decade, various
types
of hospital infection became a serious medical problem in Korea. This paper was prepared to prepared to medical doctors, nurses and clinical pathology technologists, who are interested in, and responsible for the control of hospital infection in
their
own hospital; they were gathered for an awareness workshop on hospital infection sponsored by the government and World Health Organization in February 1994.
Current status of hospital infection and control program in Korea are presented in tables. Number of problems that are hindering active practice of hospital infection control program are listed and discussed in detail. Several strategies to
minimize
preventable hospital infection are proposed including how to enhance the insight on the issue, educate and train hospital infection control practitioners and establish suitable control program.
